When Ultimate Vocal Remover is the better choice
Ultimate Vocal Remover fits better when you have a suitable computer: 64-bit and, for GPU conversions, at least an Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB.
- You don't want to pay anything. It is free and open source; DeVocal's free plan stops at 2 separations a month.
- Your audio must stay on your machine. UVR processes everything locally and uploads nothing.
- You want to choose between models, or split drums and bass with Demucs. DeVocal returns two tracks.
Questions before you switch
- Do I need a graphics card for DeVocal?
- No. The song is separated online after you upload it, so a phone or a laptop with a browser is enough.
- Is DeVocal free like Ultimate Vocal Remover?
- Partly. The free plan includes 2 separations a month with MP3 downloads, for songs up to 10 minutes. Starter is $4.99 a month for 20 separations and adds WAV downloads and songs up to 20 minutes.
- Can I change the key the way the Change Pitch tool does?
- On DeVocal the key change sits in the player: pick up to 6 semitones up or down, listen to the instrumental in that key on the page, then download it. Changing the key does not use another separation.
