You're Not Going Anywhere · Brad Sucks

30s sample

Instrumental key, original key

Instrumental key

Listen to the busiest part. Strong reverb on the voice can leave a faint trace.

Key -2 plays the same file you would download in that key.

Excerpt and separation by DeVocal · CC BY-SA 3.0

You get two tracks: the vocals, and everything else together. Drums, bass and keys are not split apart.

  • A failed separation costs nothing

Removing vocals from your own file

What one upload gives you, and where it falls short.

  1. Upload the song or video from your device. Start from the best copy you have; a lossless file keeps more detail.
  2. Switch between Original, Vocals and Instrumental and listen to the busiest parts before you download.
  3. Download the instrumental as an MP3 with no account, or as a WAV on a paid plan.

Reverb on the voice can leave a faint trace in the instrumental, and dense, distorted mixes are harder to separate cleanly than sparse ones.

Can I paste a YouTube or Spotify link?
No. DeVocal only takes audio and video files you upload, so you need the file on your device and permission to process it.
How long can the song be?
Files can be up to 500 MB. The free plan takes songs up to 10 minutes and includes 2 separations a month; paid plans take songs up to 20 minutes. Without an account you can try 2 songs a day.
Why can I still hear a voice in the chorus?
Choruses often stack doubled vocals, harmonies and reverb on top of a full band, and those parts overlap the instruments more than a single lead line does. How much remains depends on the recording.
