Splitting a song into four stems

What comes apart, how to do it, and where it stops.

The four stems

  • Vocals: every voice in the song, lead and backing together.
  • Drums: the kit and the percussion.
  • Bass: the bass line.
  • Other: everything that is left.

Three steps

  1. Open the separation page and choose 4 stems. This needs a paid plan.
  2. Choose the song on your device and start. There is nothing to install.
  3. Listen to each stem, switching at the same point, then download what you need.

Plans and length

Four stems come with every paid plan: Starter and Pro. A track can be up to 10 minutes long.

Limits

  • Four stems only. There is no separate guitar or piano stem, and no 6-stem split.
  • Four stems need the track's length. Some AVI and WMA files don't give it in the browser; those can still be split into two.
  • Stems download as MP3 or WAV, one at a time or all four in a ZIP.

Questions

Can I split stems for free?
Not into four. For free, a song splits into two tracks: vocals and instrumental. Without an account that is 2 files a day, and a free account gets 2 a month.
Where do the guitar and the piano go?
Into Other, with the synths, strings and everything else that is not vocals, drums or bass.
How long are my files kept?
30 days on a paid plan. Then they are deleted, and nothing is used to train models.
