Pulling an acapella out of a finished mix

For remixes, mashups and vocal practice.

  1. Upload the full mix from your device, as an audio or video file. A lossless or high-bitrate file keeps more of the voice.
  2. Solo the Vocals track and listen through the loudest sections, where instruments are most likely to bleed in.
  3. Download the vocals as an MP3 with no account, or as a WAV on a paid plan for editing in a DAW.

Drums and guitars that sit in the same range as the voice can leave traces, most often in the loudest parts of the song. Use vocals you have permission to process, and get permission from the rights holders before you release anything built on them.

Can I get the lead vocal without the harmonies?
No. Every voice in the song ends up in the same Vocals track, so backing vocals and doubles come out with the lead.
Will the reverb come with the vocal?
Usually some of it does. Reverb and delay printed on the voice in the original mix are part of the vocal sound, and you may want to trim or gate the tails in your editor.
Can I change the key of the acapella?
No. The ±6 semitone choice applies to the instrumental download. The vocals download in the original key, so shift them in your DAW if you need to.
